Garment Care

🧼 A Quick Guide

We want you to love your new clothes and wear them forever! Doing laundry in a dorm or apartment can be incredibly tricky when you are first starting out. Think of this as your quick laundry cheat sheet so you can protect your new favorite outfits and avoid any accidental wardrobe heartbreaks.

🧺 The Golden Rules

Before doing anything, look for the little care tag sewn inside your clothes—it's your instruction manual!

  • Mineral dye items = wash SOLO: Mineral-dyed or vintage-wash pieces will bleed color during their first few washes. Wash them completely by themselves in cold water so they don't accidentally ruin your other clothes!
  • Be careful with fabric softener: Softener can actually leave greasy-looking blue or gray stains if it pours directly onto dry fabric or doesn't mix right in commercial machines. Skip it for your cute pieces, or make sure it goes strictly into the designated dispenser drawer!
  • Adjust dorm & rental machine settings: Commercial washers are powerful and aggressive. Never just hit start on the default setting. Manually change it to COLD water and the GENTLE cycle so your clothes don't shrink or wear out.
  • No machines for sweaters & cardigans: The washer friction causes pilling (fuzziness), and the dryer heat will shrink them down to doll size. Hand-wash them in cold water in your sink and lay them flat on a towel to dry.
  • Athletic wear: Wash inside out & skip the heat. Never use fabric softener, as it clogs the moisture-wicking fabric. Always air dry, high heat destroys elasticity.
  • Air drying is your BFF: High heat from dryers is super harsh on fabrics. Hang your items up or lay them flat on a drying rack to keep them looking brand new.
  • Watch out for zippers: Avoid washing delicate tops in the same load as heavy jeans. Metal zippers and hooks will snag fabrics and cause tiny, frustrating holes.

🛑 Our Washing Policy

We choose our collections with love, but Long Haul Boutique LLC cannot be held responsible for any damage that happens during the washing or drying process.

Once an item is washed or worn, we unfortunately cannot accept it for returns, exchanges, or store credit. Because everyone uses different machines, settings, and laundry products, we cannot take liability for laundry mishaps like shrinking, bleeding dyes, softener stains, pilling, or tearing.
